Hurricane Preparedness Tips

  • Windows - lock them to create a better seal
  • Chemicals & Flammables - place them outside of your home
  • Refrigerator - empty it before you lose power
  • Pictures - leave them on the wall, since they are safer there in the event of flooding
  • Closet Floors -get everything off of the floors
  • Wooden Furniture Legs - wrap heavy duty aluminum foil around the legs
  • Valuables - store them in large vac-u-pacs
  • Storage - place items in washer, dryer & dishwasher
  • Dry Storage - empty 5 gallon paint cans are good for dry storage
  • Fix-A-Flat - have them for quick flat repairs, due to excessive debris on the roads
  • Citronella Candles & Mosquito Repellant
  • Garbage - get rid of it ASAP to avoid pests
  • Safety Hazards - make temporary repairs as soon as possibleto minimize further damage
  • Drawers & Doors - open them to encourage air flow and help dry out the building materials
  • Telephone Numbers - Have them ready and handy, in plastic storage bags
  • Cell Phones - charge the batteries completely
  • Cameras - completely charge batteries and confirm that they are available to document storm damage
  • Drinking Water - have enough for 5 gallons per person in the house, for at least one week
  • Generator Fuel - be sure that you have enough to run the generator for at least one week
  • Food - be sure that you have enough non-refrigerated food for each person for at least one week, and that it is in plastic dry-storage
